Peak District Archaeology & History - Index
The Peak, like the rest of  England, is essentially a man-made landscape. Although it is possible to drive across the Peak in half an hour, hunters, farmers, foresters, miners, navvies, mill masters and reservoir builders have been active for at least 5,000 years. Locating and understanding their effects on the landscape is the task of a lifetime.  Links from this page show some of the ways that man has changed and created the landscape.
